Beaman council seeks bids for city sidewalk snow removal, ends business-side clearing on Main Street

Council member Barry Brockman moved and Council member Brandon Schleisman seconded a motion to invite bids for snow removal from city-owned sidewalks. The council also agreed that the city will no longer remove snow from the sidewalks in front of Main Street businesses; the City Clerk was instructed to notify those businesses of the change. The motion carried on a 5–0 vote. Bids will be considered at the council’s Dec. 10 meeting.
Mayor Ann Smith and council members characterized the action as a policy change to formalize snow-removal responsibility and to obtain competitive pricing.
