Beaman mayor to step down Dec. 31; council appoints temporary mayor pro‑tem

The Beaman City Council on Dec. 10 accepted the resignation of Mayor Ann Smith, effective Dec. 31, 2025, and the mayor named Council member Barry Brockman as temporary Mayor Pro‑Tempore from Jan. 1 through Jan. 15, 2026.
Council member Barry Brockman moved to accept Smith’s resignation; Council member Jason Scafferi seconded the motion, which carried unanimously (Ayes: 5). Mayor Smith then appointed Brockman to serve as temporary mayor pro‑tem while the newly appointed mayor prepares to make committee and council appointments.
Clerk Denise Hoy told the council the city posted the intent to appoint the mayoral vacancy “as required by law,” and council members agreed to make a permanent appointment at the January regular meeting. The council also agreed—by separate motion—to move the January meeting from Wednesday, Jan. 14, to Thursday, Jan. 15, beginning at 6 p.m., and to consider an ordinance in January to change regular meetings from the second Wednesday to the second Thursday at 6 p.m.
The council’s acceptance of the resignation and the temporary appointment were procedural actions recorded in the Dec. 10 minutes; no further deliberation or public comment on the resignation was recorded.
