Beaman council adopts budget amendment, OKs sheriff agreement and contracts

The Beaman City Council on June 11 adopted a FY2025 budget amendment and approved several contracts and quotes for city services and maintenance.
Mayor Ann Smith opened and closed a public hearing on the FY2025 Budget Amendment #1 with no public comment. Council member Brandon Schleisman moved and Deb Ashton seconded to adopt Resolution 2025-04 approving the amendment; the motion carried with recorded ayes from Schleisman, Ashton, Brockman and Scafferi.
Council approved a 28E intergovernmental agreement with the Grundy County Sheriff for law-enforcement services in fiscal 2026 at an annual cost of $3,975. Council member Deb Ashton moved to enter the agreement and Brandon Schleisman seconded; the motion passed with the same four recorded ayes.
The council approved a quote from Med Compass for required fire-crew physicals at $200 per person, as required by the city’s work-compensation carrier (IMWCA). It also accepted a $3,000 quote from Mario Tree Service to remove trees and treat the fence line at the sewer lagoons.
On property and maintenance matters the council received two quotes to remove the remains of the burned structure at 104 Center Street (KWD LLC: $5,800; MD Construction Inc.: $6,750) and voted to accept the $5,800 KWD LLC bid; Council member Deb Ashton moved and Jason Scafferi seconded the motion. Scafferi was assigned to notify the contractor.
The council approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting, which included minutes from the May 14 and June 2 meetings, bills dated May 15–June 11, and May financial reports. The packet listed total expenses for the 05/14/2025–06/11/2025 period as $44,229.81 and May 2025 total revenues as $27,125.36, with notable line items including the ICAP FY2026 insurance premium of $20,038.00 and an IMWCA FY26 workers-comp premium of $2,956.00.
Committee reports noted that 104 Center Street has burned, the new Beaman sign is installed, and water-meter installation will begin; the library report and sheriff report were submitted.
With no further business, the mayor adjourned the meeting.
