Madison commission tables middle‑housing text amendment, sets summer schedule including Madison Center hearings
Summary
Commissioners tabled the middle‑housing text amendment to July 9 because of a legal‑notice posting glitch, scheduled multiple July and August public hearings — including Madison Center Phase 3 pedestrian and sidewalk improvements for Aug. 20 — and approved administrative extensions for subdivision recordation deadlines.

At the June 18 meeting the Madison Planning & Zoning Commission postponed several items and set a summer hearing calendar, including scheduling a public hearing on Madison Center Phase 3 (Boston Post Road pedestrian and landscape improvements) for Aug. 20.
The commission said it could not open the public hearing on the proposed middle‑housing text amendment (case 26‑18) because of a glitch in posting the required legal notice; the amendment was formally tabled to the July 9 meeting. Staff read a list of pending applications and scheduled hearings for July and August, including site plan modifications, coastal referrals and special‑exception applications.
The commission also approved a 90‑day extension request to file a signed record subdivision map for application 25‑28 (Bushnell Lane), moving the expiration to Sept. 16, 2026. Commissioners approved minutes from the May 21 meeting and asked staff to circulate commissioner blackout dates for summer vacations given the heavy docket.
Items scheduled for future hearings include Garnet Park (tabled to July 9), Sound View (applicant present), a text amendment hearing set for July 9 and multiple downtown pedestrian and sidewalk improvements tied to the Madison Center project slated for Aug. 20. The commission emphasized that some hearings remain contingent on agency referrals and corrected legal notices before formal openings.
