City staff told the Cemetery-Parks Commission on June 11 that the Church Street reconstruction project planned for next year will require temporary removal and later resetting of the veterans' monument in the Lincoln Street cemetery.
Assistant City Manager/Finance Director Kevin Plockmeyer said the reconstruction work—from Washington Avenue to the CWP—will include major sanitary and storm sewer work that routes through the veterans' section at Lincoln Street cemetery. Plockmeyer said the veterans' section monument "will have to be removed and reset," and staff hope to schedule that element of the work for the fall or winter to avoid disrupting the cemetery ahead of Memorial Day.
Why it matters: The veterans' monument is a focal point for Memorial Day observances; removal and reinstallation timing affects commemorations and requires careful coordination with cemetery operations and event schedules.
Plockmeyer said he will keep the commission informed as project timing and sequencing are finalized. The minutes do not list the contractor or final schedule; the minutes record only that staff will provide updates.
Burials and lot sales since March 2025: Plockmeyer reported the following counts in the minutes. Burials — Lincoln: residents 6, non-residents 2; Felch: residents 1, non-residents 0. Lot sales — Lincoln: residents 3, non-residents 1; Felch: residents 2, non-residents 0.
The commission adjourned at 5:30 p.m. Plockmeyer said the next regular meeting is scheduled for July 9, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., though he did not anticipate meeting again before September unless significant agenda items arise.
