Shelby council signs off on Wells No. 9 & 10 closeout, approves $5,000 forgivable housing loan

Bob Veenstra presented the Wells No. 9 & 10 project closeout. On motions brought during the meeting the council approved the Certificate of Substantial Completion and the Statement of Final Completion (including Change Order 7) for work performed by Rieschick Drilling Co. The council also approved Partial Payment Estimate No. 6 (Supplemental Final) in the amount of $52,816.84, noting that release of the payment will depend on the actual completion status of the work, and Partial Payment Estimate No. 7 (Retainage Final) for $2,779.83. For these votes the roll call recorded Jackie Hursey, Pat Honeywell, Todd Frank and Karen Schlueter as voting yes; Traci True abstained.
Separately, the council approved a housing assistance application for Chris and Deb Auen for property at 505 Eastern Ave. The council approved a five-year forgivable loan of $5,000 to be secured against the property by a mortgage executed by the applicants as a condition of fund release. The meeting minutes record the vote on the housing application as all ayes; the transcript does not specify the motion’s mover and seconder.
Other administrative items included designation of the Avoca Journal Herald as the official paper for publication and scheduling of a Jan. 16 budget session and a Jan. 10 town-hall meeting on new development at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Building. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
