Berkshire Hills committee accepts $45,000 United Way grant for afterschool programs

The Berkshire Hills Regional School Committee voted to accept a $45,000 renewal grant from the United Way intended to support the district’s afterschool and summer programs.
Superintendent Peter summarized the grant and said the funding supports program goals and outcomes included in the meeting packet. JP explained that the district measures program outcomes using the SAYO (Student Academic Youth Outcomes) survey by sampling students at the beginning and end of programs to track changes in observed behaviors and skills.
Peter also alerted the committee that the Bar Foundation has invited the district to apply for an extension of earlier support for high-school work; a draft application has been submitted seeking up to $150,000 and the superintendent said he will bring a formal application to the committee in the coming weeks for a future vote.
A motion to accept the United Way award was made and seconded and the chair stated the motion passed unanimously.
