The Malden School Committee recorded the following actions during its Jan. 12, 2026 meeting:
- Adoption of minutes: The Committee unanimously adopted the Dec. 8, 2025 and Jan. 5, 2026 regular session meeting minutes (motions by Mr. Drummey and Mr. Bernard respectively; roll-call votes recorded).
- Warrants: The Committee unanimously approved the December 2025 warrants and authorized the Chair to sign (motion by Ms. Spadafora, seconded by Mr. Bernard).
- NRT transportation contract: Vice Chair Spadafora raised questions about how recent DESE enrollment declines could affect the district’s contract with NRT and whether the contract includes adjustments based on student counts. Ms. Spadafora moved to table the NRT contract until the Feb. 2, 2026 meeting; the motion passed unanimously.
- Subcommittee assignments: The Committee voted 5–4 to table proposed subcommittee assignment changes after concerns about dissolving an Equity and Opportunity subcommittee (motion to table by Mr. Drummey; vote recorded).
- Donation: The Committee unanimously accepted a $100 donation from Mayor Christenson to the Malden High Choral Arts Society (motion by Ms. Spadafora; seconded by Mr. McCarthy).
- SY2027 calendar: The Committee unanimously approved the proposed 2026–27 school year calendar (educator start Aug. 24, grades 1–12 start Aug. 26, Pre-K/K start Sept. 2) after discussion about PD scheduling (motion by Ms. Spadafora; seconded by Mr. Bernard).
- Personnel action: After reconvening from executive session, the Committee approved a 3% COLA retroactive to July 1, 2025 for the Beebe MOST Site Coordinator (motion by Ms. Spadafora; seconded by Mr. Drummey). Ms. Macklin was recorded as absent for that vote.
- Adjournment: The Committee adjourned at 8:16 p.m. (motion by Mr. Drummey; seconded by Mr. McCarthy).
