Committee unanimously approves field trips, policy, contracts and donation in routine votes

The Malden School Committee used its Nov. 10 meeting to approve several routine items: Nature’s Classroom field trips for five K–8 schools, a draft policy on Middle School Pathway Exploration (IHAIA), a $500 donation to the Malden High School Choral Arts Society, a collective bargaining MOA for SEIU Local 888 cafeteria workers effective July 1, 2025 for three years, and an amendment to the superintendent’s contract effective July 1, 2025.
Students and staff described Nature’s Classroom trips from Salemwood, Beebe, Forestdale, Linden and Ferryway and highlighted outdoor learning, teamwork and social‑emotional growth. Mr. Drummey moved to approve the trips and Mr. Bernard seconded; the committee voted unanimously to approve the Nature’s Classroom 2026 trips.
Ms. Rose‑Zeiberg, reporting from the Policy & Procedure Subcommittee, summarized work on Draft Policy IHAIA (Middle School Pathway Exploration) and a phased approach to competency determination; the committee suspended docket rules to take up the policy and then voted unanimously to approve the draft policy.
Under motions and resolutions, the committee accepted a $500 donation to the Malden High School Choral Arts Society from donors identified at the meeting. The committee also approved a Memorandum of Agreement for SEIU Local 888 cafeteria workers effective July 1, 2025 for a three‑year period and authorized the chair to sign the MOA after the committee reconvened from executive session. Members then approved a contract amendment with the superintendent effective July 1, 2025 and adjourned the meeting at 8:06 p.m.
All votes recorded at the Nov. 10 meeting were unanimous unless noted; in one reconvened vote, Mr. Gray was recorded absent.
