Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee approves interim superintendent contract for Al Ganem

The Berlin-Boylston Regional School Committee voted unanimously Aug. 8 to approve a contract with Al (Albert) Ganem to serve as interim superintendent, the committee announced after returning from an executive session.
Mrs. Meagan Grill, chair of the committee, called the meeting to order at 5:06 p.m. The committee entered executive session at 5:08 p.m. under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30A, Section 21(a)(2), to conduct negotiations with nonunion personnel and to prepare strategy for the candidate for interim superintendent. The committee returned to open session at 6:39 p.m.
By motion of Mrs. Julie Lee, vice chair, seconded by Mrs. Lisa Mair, the committee approved "the contract between BBRSD and the new Interim Superintendent, Al Ganem," as presented, subject to final edits by District Counsel and with the chair authorized to sign on the committee's behalf. The recorded vote was 6-0 in favor: Meagan Grill (yes); Julie Lee (yes); Lori-Anne Hart (yes); Michael Totman (yes); Jessica Deglialberti (yes); Lisa Mair (yes).
The meeting adjourned at 6:41 p.m. Mrs. Lori-Anne Hart, district clerk, reminded potential candidates that nomination papers to appear on the ballot for school committee are due Aug. 20. The committee announced its next regular meeting for Aug. 27, 2024.
The contract specifics discussed in executive session, including salary, term length, or other employment conditions, were not disclosed on the public record and will be finalized by District Counsel before the chair signs the agreement.
