Dodge County approves contract with Jeff Ray for zoning administration, pending attorney review

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 26 unanimously approved entering a contract with Jeff Ray to serve as the county zoning administrator, pending revisions to the contract language and final review by County Attorney Hopkins.

Supervisor Strand said Ray currently works under contract with the City of Fremont and other local municipalities and that the Personnel Committee recommended contracting for zoning administration to obtain experience while reducing costs compared with hiring a county employee. The board accepted the contract subject to verbiage changes that must be made before the county attorney completes its review.

Under the approved arrangement, Ray is expected to perform routine zoning administrator duties and to attend Dodge County Planning Commission meetings. The contract as approved at the meeting includes a condition that the county attorney must review and sign off on revised language before the contract takes effect.

The board took the vote as part of routine agenda business; no motion or vote counts beyond ‘unanimously approved’ were reported in the transcript. The board’s action does not by itself change any zoning ordinances; it authorizes a contracted administrator role subject to the county attorney’s final review and any required edits.

Next steps: County Attorney Hopkins will review the revised contract language and the matter will return to the clerk’s office for final execution once the attorney signs off.
