Executive Committee of Massachusetts Cultural Council enters closed session to discuss executive director pay

The Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Cultural Council voted unanimously Feb. 25 to enter a closed executive session to discuss compensation for Executive Director Michael J. Bobbitt. The session was convened online and began after a brief procedural opening at 9:34 a.m.
Chair Marc Carroll called the meeting to order and asked Deputy Executive Director David Slatery to read the Open Meeting Law statement. The Chair then requested that the Committee move into a closed executive session for the purpose of discussing Mr. Bobbitt’s salary and to prepare a recommendation for the full Council.
Committee member Cecil Barron Jensen moved to enter closed executive session; Ché Anderson seconded the motion. The Committee took a roll-call vote, noted that Iván Espinoza-Madrigal was absent, and recorded a unanimous vote among members present to enter executive session. Members present who are listed in the minutes include Marc Carroll (Chair), Jo-Ann Davis (Vice Chair), Ché Anderson, Simone Early, Cecil Barron Jensen and Julie Wake. Staff present before the closed session included Executive Director Michael J. Bobbitt, Deputy Executive Director David Slatery, Deputy Chief of Staff Ann Petruccelli Moon and Carmen Plazas, Communications & Community Engagement Manager.
Following the vote, non-committee attendees and staff left the online meeting platform, the YouTube livestream was suspended, and the Committee entered executive session. The Committee adjourned at the close of the closed-session discussion. The minutes for the executive-session portion of the meeting will be posted when the need for nondisclosure no longer exists under the Open Meeting Law and the Committee has voted to release them.
No formal compensation amount or recommendation was recorded in the public minutes. The Committee’s stated next procedural step is to prepare a recommendation to the full Council; any subsequent action, vote or public report was not included in the minutes and is therefore not specified.
