At the June 16 Select Board meeting, Highway Superintendent Ray Hultay reviewed upcoming Chapter 90 paving projects and maintenance issues.
Hultay said the town put in a contractor bid for asphalt totaling about $80,000, which he estimated equates to roughly 12,300 tons, and identified Nye Brook, Lloyds Hill Road, Gore Road and Cobble Mountain (down to the gate at Crooks Road) as paving priorities. Select Board member J. Coury questioned ordering larger quantities if materials might go unused; a vendor representative identified as Senecal responded that contractors typically do not produce the product until there is a contract, reducing the risk to the town.
Hultay also said a road sign previously ordered and installed as "Sunset Rock" was incorrect; he researched the error and replaced the sign with the correct "Sunset Road."
Building Inspector Jason Forgue recommended hiring a recognized design professional to address ongoing issues at the Highway Garage and Salt Shed and noted that open floor drains should be sealed until plumbing corrections can be made. Separately, Kinsley Power performed a Level I inspection on the town generator and recommended replacing the battery and block heater; Ferrera reported the battery replacement cost as $1,859 and the board approved proceeding.
No formal vote was needed for the informational highway report; the board agreed to follow up on procurement, maintenance and the inspector's recommendation.
