At its April 15 meeting, the Alma City Council approved two insurance-related items: an employee health insurance renewal that the minutes record as a 22.5% premium increase effective July 1, 2026, and a property, casualty and airport insurance renewal with Waggoner Insurance Agency covering marine and airport policies and a deductible buyback.
Council approved the employee health plan renewal (Blue Cross Blue Shield through the League Insurance Government Health Plan) after discussion and agreed to review options next year (motion by Larry Casper; second by Tom Moulton). The minutes state the renewal will start July 1, 2026 and that premiums will rise 22.5% compared with the current premium.
Separately, the council approved renewal with Waggoner Insurance Agency for several policies: marine policy $125,925.00, airport policy $2,984.00, and a deductible buyback $4,318.80, with the City Auditorium added as replacement cost because of recent renovation and the EV charging station; the minutes record a total of $133,227.80. Motion by Moulton, second by Mahalek to approve the property, casualty and airport insurance renewal carried on roll call vote.
The minutes do not detail enrollee impacts, changes to employee cost-sharing, or a line-item budget adjustment; the council discussed reviewing the health plan next year.
