Teachers honored, students pitch projects and arts and sports leaders recap a busy year

Golden Apple Awards: Committee members presented Golden Apple Awards to several outstanding educators, citing multiple family nominations that praised creativity, communication and sustained student impact. Recipients named in the meeting included Lisa Kent (Forestdale) and Cara Black (Oakridge), with committee members reading excerpts from parent nominations.
Student projects: Fourth graders presented a "relaxation station" recess proposal that combined geometry and practical design. The students described their planned area’s dimensions and materials, explained how they used map tools and classroom math to estimate measurements, and noted the supplies total reported during the presentation excluded labor. Committee members praised the students for civic engagement and told them administrators will continue to explore shading and placement options for the proposal.
Arts: Anthony Texera, in his first year as director of the Nights Theater Company, reviewed the season: family-friendly productions, a spring musical and strong student leadership on technical and creative work. He said roughly 90 students participated across productions and asked the committee to consider future investments in auditorium lighting and storage.
Athletics: Athletic Director Shawn Dunovan summarized the spring season: about 35% of students participated in athletics this spring, girls lacrosse won a state championship and softball captured a league title. He noted plans to improve scoreboards, storage and summer strength-and-conditioning offerings.
What’s next: Students will carry these projects into summer planning where relevant; theater and athletics leaders said they will prepare budget or facilities requests for the upcoming budget cycle.
