Dodge County awards County Road 2 milling and overlay contract; start delayed to late summer

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the Contract for Project C-27 (647) County Road 2 Milling & Overlay with Western Engineering at its May 27 meeting, authorizing the necessary signatures. Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert told the board that while Western Engineering had planned to start work immediately after grinding, the contractor could not accommodate the three-day concrete-drying window Huppert wanted; as a result the county and contractor agreed to move the start date to late August or September 2026.
Huppert also reported progress on Project 667 near Scribner (County Road F between County Roads 8 and 10), saying the work should be completed within the next week, weather permitting. He added that crews are cleaning ditches while conditions remain dry.
The Road Committee has discussed implementing a paperless fleet management system to provide administrative and operational oversight of county vehicles; Huppert said the department will also adopt a new integrated phone system with push-to-talk and hands-free options to facilitate intra-department communication.
