Dodge County officials report most inmates housed out of county due to medical needs

At the Dec. 10 meeting of the Dodge County Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Beam reported that 49 individuals were in custody: 29 held in Saunders County, 15 in Washington County, one at the Lincoln Regional Center, one with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services and three onsite in Dodge County.
County Attorney Hopkins explained that the small number of in-county detainees have specific medical needs that Saunders and Washington counties cannot meet. "The judges are becoming less accommodating to those with specific medical needs because they don’t want that used as an excuse to avoid incarceration," Hopkins said.
The board recessed into a Board of Corrections meeting at 9:05 A.M. for this item and adjourned that session at 9:08 A.M.; no formal action or policy change was recorded on the jail placements at the Dec. 10 meeting. The Board scheduled the Board of Corrections to reconvene Dec. 23, 2025 at 9:05 A.M.
