Highway superintendent reports pothole repairs, bridge signage and a new public railroad crossing

Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert told supervisors on Jan. 21 that current weather conditions have allowed crews to install culverts, clean ditches and patch potholes across Dodge County.
Huppert said he and Speece Lewis are working to upload bridge inspection information to the State portal. He has purchased "bridge ahead" signs to be placed on mandated bridge weight limit signs for insurance clarity so road users understand the weight limit applies to the bridge structure rather than the roadway; he reported he is discussing possible State funding for the signs.
Huppert also reported that Union Pacific Railroad has signed an agreement for the crossing at County Road 6 and Shoreline Drive, converting it to a public crossing; the railroad will send plans to the State so appropriate signage can be installed. Huppert is preparing the One & Six-year Road Plan and is consulting townships with the aim of presenting the plan to the Board within the next six weeks.
The Board approved declaring a 2003 Freightliner truck surplus and authorizing it for public auction during the same meeting.
