Sharon BOS recommends joining NRRA after state notice about Torrington facility

The Sharon Board of Selectmen voted March 10 to recommend that the town adopt an ordinance to join the Northwest Resource Recovery Authority (NRRA) for solid waste and recycling management.
First Selectman Flanagan told the board he had received a letter from the State Department of Administrative Services indicating the Torrington facility would cease operations June 30, 2026, even though Sharon's contract runs to June 30, 2027. Board members said joining NRRA would signal town support for the Authority and could help NRRA secure the permit and operations for the Torrington facility in the future. Attorney DiBella reviewed the draft ordinance and the NRRA by‑laws for the board.
Mr. Brett moved that the board recommend passage of the ordinance to join NRRA to Town Meeting; Ms. Kearcher seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The motion was recorded as a recommendation to forward the ordinance for Town Meeting consideration.
