Sharon Board shows budget timeline, asks for clearer backup materials and schedules community forums

Board members at the Dec. 8 Sharon Board of Education meeting reviewed a Budget Timeline and asked administrators to provide more accessible backup information accompanying budget numbers.
Board members said they want not only raw figures but supporting materials that explain assumptions and provide context for the public. Business Manager Sam Herrick and his assistant Sara Woloszyn were identified as the staff who will prepare the data for the Budget and Personnel committees, which will meet together to begin the budget review process. Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley requested that she and HR Specialist Michelle Curtis be invited to personnel committee meetings.
The district also announced a Staff Forum on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 3:30–4:30 PM and a Parent/Community Forum on Friday, Dec. 12 from 3:30–5:00 PM; attendees may participate in person, via a Google form, or by requesting a personal meeting with the superintendent. Board member Pam Jarvis asked for definitions, terminology and acronyms used in reports to be clarified; Superintendent Brady-Shanley said she will share an overview of the School Climate Legislation. Board member Cathy Winburn suggested that reports spell out abbreviations to improve clarity.
Administrators noted a Region 1 video under Business Office → Budgets and Financials that explains how the Region 1 budget is developed; board members said they want future budget presentations formatted to be easier for the public to understand.
