Council reviews draft employment agreement for Assistant City Manager Nathan McKenna

The Mt. Vernon City Council reviewed draft employment documents on Sept. 3 relating to Assistant City Manager Nathan McKenna’s potential transition to City Manager.
Council members were given a Future Employment Agreement and an Employment Contract prepared by former City Attorney David Leggans. City Attorney Courtney Cox said he did not believe a separate Future Employment Agreement was necessary and said elements of it could be included in the Employment Agreement. Assistant City Manager Nathan McKenna had read the Employment Agreement and suggested changes; Attorney Cox reviewed those suggestions and presented edits of his own.
Council members discussed possible wording changes in several sections of the Employment Agreement. The council directed Attorney Cox to draft a revised agreement for review by the council and by McKenna. The record shows discussion and direction to prepare a revised contract; no final employment contract was approved during the session.
