Council gets update on downtown dilapidated building, owner given until September

Wymore — The Wymore City Council received an update Aug. 7 on a downtown dilapidated building and ongoing abatement enforcement.
Council member Max Allen asked for the status of a downtown structure that remains unsafe. Tim Sedlacek reported there has been very little progress by the owner; the owner has until the end of September to remedy the condition. Sedlacek said the contractor plans to clean the building out with roll‑off containers and then demolish it to vacate the property.
The council also discussed a recent house fire and another house that burned about a year earlier on North 11th Street. Sedlacek said he will attempt to contact the owner of the house on 8th Street to learn her plans.
Separately, Sedlacek reported that the city has sent 43 abatement letters; six recipients did not comply. The city has performed mowing on some properties and will bill those property owners for the work. The council thanked Sedlacek and Utilities employees for the work.
