Road commissioner flags culvert needs; Select Board hears recommendation to seek state grant

Road Commissioner Keith Lacasse told the Select Board Oct. 7 that the town has multiple drainage and culvert problems that need attention, including a beaver-plugged culvert on Ingraham Road and two larger culverts — a 12-inch on Ingraham Road near the old gate and a 24-inch on Greylock Road — that need replacement. He said he had done five hours of leaf blowing and will clean swales, and that he has dug excavation related to a water supply for the Fire Department.
Chair Jason Jayko reported he met with Anne Gobi of the Executive Office of Economic Development, who recommended applying for a state "one-stop" grant that opens in January to address culvert repairs and funding for added water supply for the Fire Department. Jason said the grant recommendation is a next step for funding the repairs.
Keith also reported that Donovan will finish Ingraham Road soon and that Williams will pave Steve Nielsen’s driveway apron. The Department of Conservation and Recreation will close Mount Greylock on Oct. 30 at 3 p.m.; Keith said he will leave the bottom gate open until snow falls. The board discussed cleaning culvert throats across town and the potential to pave Greylock Road up to the gate.
No formal vote was recorded on culvert work or paving during the Oct. 7 meeting; the board discussed pursuing grant funding and later action will be required to secure contracts and appropriations.
