Town clerk reports low primary turnout; resignations announced and cemetery dedication planned for Nov. 2

At the Sept. 4 New Ashford Select Board meeting, Town Clerk Susan Supranowicz updated the board on the state primary and election logistics, and the board discussed personnel changes and a planned cemetery dedication.
Susan reported 40 voters participated in the state primary. She mailed 24 vote-by-mail ballots and said about half were returned. Early voting over three days drew no voters and one person registered to vote for regular voting. Susan said there is a $1,000 grant available to have a police officer present during elections and that she has asked the Lanesboro police chief whether an officer from that department could cover the election. She certified the election results and will mail them to the state election office.
Under other business, the board discussed writing a thank-you letter to Robert Lyon for donating time and materials to paint the Town Hall; Lyon plans to finish the north side later. The board noted a cemetery ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 2 to commemorate Phoebe Jordan as the first woman to vote in a federal election, with a reception to follow at Town Hall. Board members reported that Chuck Morrone, Ken McInerney, and Jason Jayko repaired a cemetery stone.
The board accepted notice that Kurt Singer is resigning from the Board of Health effective immediately. The board also received notice that Brandy Jaros is resigning as Tax Collector and will remain to assist with the transition to a new collector.
