New Ashford board appoints constable, approves minutes and authorizes Adobe payment; special town meeting set for Oct. 22

The New Ashford Select Board met Oct. 7 at Town Hall and by Zoom and approved administrative business including the appointment of a new constable and scheduling a Special Town Meeting.

Mark Phelps moved and Jason Jayko seconded approval of the Sept. 16, 2024 minutes; the minutes were approved with Ken McInerney recorded as abstaining. Later in the meeting, Jason Jayko moved to appoint Mark Beverly as constable; Ken McInerney seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Mark Phelps moved and Ken McInerney seconded a motion authorizing the treasurer to use the town credit card to pay Adobe $239.88; the motion passed unanimously.

The board reviewed a draft Special Town Meeting warrant and set the meeting for Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall. Warrant items reviewed include $5,400 from free cash for CollectPro data extracts and an import to Vadar; up to $20,000 from free cash for direct boring under the road to run water and propane lines to the Church and to repair a well cap under the Town Hall ramp; $6,000 to replace entry doors and repair an overhang; and up to $500 from free cash for paint for the Fire Station (labor to be donated). The board did not vote on those warrant articles at this meeting; they were placed on the Special Town Meeting warrant for Oct. 22.

Town Clerk Susan Supranowicz told the board she had sent 42 vote-by-mail ballots and received five back, has applied to a small-town election fund for up to $5,000 to help repair the Town Hall ramp for accessibility, and arranged for a Lanesboro officer to be present at elections paid from grant funds. She said she will run an RMV inquiry to clean the voter list and will begin cleaning Town Hall after elections.

The board reviewed and signed warrants and set its next meeting for Oct. 21, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
