The Town of Sharon Inland Wetland & Watercourse Commission on March 9 approved several routine applications and procedural items, recorded in the minutes of the regular meeting.
61 Surdan Mountain Road: Applicant Josh Tyson presented a site-visit report and an application for a wastewater treatment system required to accommodate a water softener under the Health Code and for the installation of a 1,000‑gallon underground propane tank. Tyson said each project is a one‑day operation and excavated material will be removed from the site. The commission requested erosion-control measures in the form of double‑staked haybales; on motions of Commissioner Larry Rand and Commissioner William Trowbridge the commission approved the application unanimously.
238 Sharon Mountain Road: Representatives of the Sharon Land Trust, Tim Hunter and Sophie Lake‑Ginouves, presented an application to install a beaver baffle to control flooding. Because weather had prevented a site visit, the commission expressed concern that work on the existing dam could affect the baffle's effectiveness and asked for the installer's (Mike Callahan) assessment of the dam and for a site visit to be scheduled with the land-use office before work begins. On motions of Commissioner Sharon Tingley and Commissioner Larry Rand the commission approved the beaver-baffle application; Commissioner Mike Dudek abstained from the vote.
Procedural items and other business: The land-use administrator requested the commission accept a revised or new application for 6 Weeds Dam Road if one is submitted; that request was approved (motion Tingley/Rand). The commission reviewed improvements at 338 Calkinstown Road and determined that work there falls outside its jurisdiction. Members were reminded of a roundtable discussion for wetlands commissions on March 25 at the Cornwall Free Library. The meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
