The Medfield School Committee voted Aug. 25 to permit the Medfield After School Program (MAP) to place a movable, insulated office/storage trailer on Dale Street property under a one‑year agreement, with MAP covering purchase and installation costs.
MAP representatives said they lost access to the FAF center and need an on-site space for supplies, records and an office. They described the unit as roughly 40 by 40 feet, insulated, requiring power and tie-downs, and placed near the former shed area (not on play fields). School staff and the building inspector discussed setback requirements (about 30 feet from the road) and the unit’s movable nature; it would be placed on hardtop where feasible.
Committee discussion covered alternatives (placing it on the FAF parcel or the FAF parking lot, which would require Parks & Recreation review), the potential impact of planned school construction at Dale Street (MSBA process), outreach to adjacent neighbors, and contract terms (one-year approval with annual reassessment was proposed). Members asked MAP to coordinate neighborhood outreach and to return draft agreement language; the committee moved and approved the placement with one-year terms and the option to revisit before renewal.
The committee emphasized MAP’s role in supplying after-school care for town families and noted the arrangement is intended to be temporary and revokable with reasonable notice to accommodate potential future construction.
