Residents split on proposed Sanford sewer system as commission lists sewers among capital priorities

By contrast, Marc Thrush of 623 Peterson told the commission he opposed a sewer project because of the costs to residents. Leah Ziems of 2051 Crescent Rd. also said she is against a sewer system, saying it would be unaffordable given the other expenses residents already face.
Commissioner Taylor Meyette presented the commission’s Capital Improvement Plan, which lists a city sewer system among top priorities along with the Saginaw Road bridge, the Sanford Drain Project, the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) storm drain project and a new village office. Meyette said the plan will be forwarded to the Village Council for consideration.
No formal action to begin sewer design or funding was recorded in the minutes. Public comments and the CIP presentation indicate the issue remains at the planning and prioritization stage; the commission will refer the capital plan to the Village Council, which will determine next steps.
