Mount Vernon council approves $1.58M in vouchers, awards street and parking contracts

The Mount Vernon City Council on July 15 approved consolidated vouchers totaling $1,582,417.84 and accepted low bids for two public-works contracts. Council Member Ray Botch moved to approve the vouchers; Mike Young seconded the motion and the three members present (Botch, Donte Moore and Young) voted in favor.
City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel reported three bids for the Citywide Asphalt Overlay Project; Samron submitted the low bid of $621,621.00 and staff recommended acceptance. "Samron was the low bidder with a bid in the amount of $621,621.00," Bechtel said. Council Member Mike Young moved to accept the bid; the motion passed with Botch, Moore and Young voting yes.
Bechtel also presented three bids for the Parking Lot Sealing Project. Jax Asphalt of Mount Vernon was the low bidder at $33,193.45 and the council approved award on a motion by Ray Botch, seconded by Mike Young.
The council recorded the other bids for the overlay and sealing projects in the meeting packet: Rooters Asphalt ($695,192.79) and E.T. Simonds ($662,215.48) for the overlay, and ProVantage Systems ($48,850.75) and Asphalt Services ($46,974.00) for parking sealing. The meeting minutes list staff's recommendation to accept the low bidders.
The council's votes to award these contracts were unanimous among the members present. The meeting did not specify contract start dates or construction timelines.
