Sandwich School Committee approves superintendent's summative evaluation

The Sandwich School Committee voted 6'0''00 on April 29 to approve the superintendent's 2026 summative evaluation following a public presentation of goals and member comments.

Committee chair summarized the subcommittee's work, saying the evaluation combined quantitative ratings and qualitative feedback gathered during the year and that the process included a midcycle review and final summative vote. The chair noted the evaluation follows the district's evaluation cycle and described the ratings scheme used by the committee.

Members highlighted several accomplishments in the evaluation discussion, including implementation of the UFLY literacy program, completion of a facilities condition assessment and the launch of a unified communications platform. Dr. Miller called the document "comprehensive" and praised the superintendent's candor in his self-assessment. Several members said they believed the district is better off than a year ago while also noting continued work remains on facilities and special education.

Superintendent provided brief remarks, thanking the committee and attributing progress to the leadership team and staff. He said the evaluation reflects a team effort and expressed appreciation for the committee's feedback.

The committee approved the evaluation as presented by roll-call vote, with the motion made by Miss Benenda and seconded by Miss Goodwin. The approval concluded with the chair noting the public nature of the vote is required by law.

The committee will finalize the written evaluation and the superintendent will sign the document as the final administrative step.
