Brewer committee approves “Sundaes in the Park,” sets June 14 pop-up and adopts holiday decorating contests

The Brewer Culture & Arts Committee voted on May 18 to hold a new summer pop-up called “Sundaes in the Park,” approved related supply purchases and set the event for June 14 from 1–3 p.m. at the Riverwalk Children’s Garden.
Chair Marissa Worster opened the meeting and members recorded attendance. Committee member Amanda Oullete-Clark moved to adopt the March 3, 2026 minutes; Ann Colson seconded and the minutes were approved unanimously.
The committee agreed to prioritize smaller, recurring events rather than a single large festival this year. Committee member Theresa Maybury moved to adopt the “Sundaes in the Park” concept and to spend $20 on an 18"x24" Coroplast sign from Bangor Graphics; Amanda Oullete-Clark seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Members next approved a motion by Steve Wong to buy ice cream tubs from Dennis Paper at $30 per tub (estimated 100 scoops per tub); that motion also passed unanimously.
For the June pop-up the committee settled logistics: one tub each of chocolate and vanilla, a $2 per-scoop price, and the single event to run June 14 from 1–3 p.m. at the Riverwalk Children’s Garden. Ashlie Beals moved to adopt the date and time and to set the $2 price; both motions were seconded and approved. Theresa Maybury volunteered to supply gloves, a cash box and scoops for the event.
Members also noted the Riverwalk Festival planning meeting is scheduled next Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Generations Theatre and discussed sponsorship-level tiers that Chair Worster distributed for later review.
On winter programming the committee adopted both a Holiday Decorating Contest and a Halloween Decorating Contest after Ashlie Beals described using Google Forms and QR codes for submissions; Lee Ohmart seconded and the motions passed unanimously. Tammy Lunn agreed to draft contest rules and suggested officers might be exempt from prize eligibility.
Wreaths Across America participation remained undecided and will return to the agenda. Committee members reported current funds of "over $600" but did not allocate additional budget beyond the small purchases authorized at the meeting. During open discussion members raised ideas to pool resources with other city departments and proposed a Brewer Community Closet for donated clothing; a brainstorm session is scheduled for June 19 at 5:30 p.m.
The committee set its next regular meeting for June 22, 2026, at City Hall at 6 p.m. and asked members to bring suggestions on sponsorship levels and summer add-ons.
