At its Feb. 9 meeting the Village of Sanford reviewed several local items: a $15,000 grant award for a proposed kayak launch, a historical society funding request, routine financial approvals and public works updates.
President reported the kayak launch project had secured a $15,000 grant from the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network and noted plans for a parking area west of 'Harry's.' Sanford Historical Society representative Chuck Dinsmore asked the village to donate $3,500; the minutes state that amount is already budgeted and scheduled to be disbursed in May.
Treasurer Travis Raymond presented monthly financial statements. The council approved revised Jan. 12 minutes and voted to approve January bills totaling $33,394.21. DPW representative Matt Hall updated the council on hardware bills and plow repairs and the group discussed using rubber-grade mulch at the village playground and water availability and staffing for the community garden. Volunteer coordinator Leah Lollar has expressed interest in stepping down.
Other calendar notes in the minutes: the Sanford Lake Improvement Board will hold a public hearing on Feb. 19 at Jerome Township Hall about renewing a weed-control assessment that may include a slight increase; the Emergency Medical Advisory Board next meets March 25, 2026. The meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
