Council schedules WWTP funding review, authorizes retention pond analysis after resident raises bulk-water concern

Council members on May 19 directed follow-up work on several infrastructure and community projects, including wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) funding, a retention pond analysis and park improvements.
Finance Chairwoman Kathy Burrier set a finance committee meeting for May 27 to discuss future funding for the WWTP expansion; Legal Counsel Terry Seeberger reminded council that the JEDD agreement dedicates 75% of certain revenues to sewer capacity and that grant funding may be available. Council did not vote on the WWTP expansion itself but scheduled the committee review.
Mayor Bruce Metzger read Village Administrator Mike Rosenberry’s report asking the council to approve up to $7,000 to continue retention pond analysis; council approved the funds to allow progress to continue. The administrator’s report also noted staff expect up to $150,000 from the 136th Capital Budget application toward the community center, that footers for an unnamed project will be dug next week pending weather, that a cybersecurity handbook has been completed, and that Western Reserve Land Conservancy will attend the June 2 council meeting to explain a walking trail program.
During public comments, resident David Dennison said he was disappointed the village would not provide bulk water for businesses this year; Mayor Metzger said he would discuss the issue with Village Administrator Mike Rosenberry and Water/Sewer Superintendent Nathan Kanouff. Dennison also raised a safety concern about parking a truck and trailer on Weber Avenue; no council action was recorded on either matter at the meeting.
Mayor Metzger also relayed that Police Chief Randy Haugh will seek an estimate to repair steering on the village’s 2016 cruiser and will email the estimate to council for a decision, and that there is interest in creating a farmers’ market in the green space this summer. Park Chairman Wes Hostetler said the school board was not currently behind the proposed park restroom upgrade because they had not been involved in the design; park committee members will meet with the school board May 23 at 9 a.m.
Council entered executive session to discuss pending imminent court action and reconvened before adjourning at 7:01 p.m.
