Strasburg council approves April finances, annexation and donates surplus fire pumper

The Strasburg Village Council on May 19 unanimously approved the April financial statement and a list of bills totaling $783,335.25, and approved several ordinances and resolutions affecting municipal staffing, equipment and land.
Council approved the minutes of the May 5 meeting and then voted to accept the financial documents presented by the fiscal officer, with Councilmember Lewis Dreher making the motion and Kathy Burrier seconding; the motion passed with all members present voting in favor. The approval covered the April financial statement, April Unified Bank statements and the April SSB worksheet.
Legal counsel Terry Seeberger announced two Fire Department additions—Brady Beckley (FFII, Basic EMT) and volunteer candidate Aiden Gardner—and Council authorized Seeberger to draft ordinances for both appointments. The motions to authorize drafting the ordinances were moved and seconded and recorded as approved by roll call.
Council suspended the usual three-reading requirement and approved Resolution 2026-18 to donate a surplus pumper to Buckeye Career Center; the resolution takes effect immediately. Council also suspended the three-reading rule for Ordinance O-7-2026 and approved an ordinance annexing 5.266 acres (Tuscarawas County tax parcels 19-00188-004 and 19-00188-005), which also takes effect immediately.
Finance Chairwoman Kathy Burrier set a finance committee meeting for May 27 to discuss future funding for the wastewater treatment plant expansion. No votes on the expansion itself were taken at the May 19 meeting.
The meeting record shows all motions passed by unanimous roll-call votes of the members present: Wes Hostetler, Lewis Dreher, Jeff Smith, Kathy Burrier, Jason Marks and Martin Zehnder. Mayor Bruce Metzger presided.
The council adjourned after an executive session on pending imminent court action and will meet again for a scheduled work session on June 4 at 5:30 p.m.
