Crawford County sheriff authorized to solicit bids for three vehicles after multiple wrecks

The Crawford County Board of Commissioners on June 23 authorized the sheriff to solicit bids for three lease-purchase vehicles after Sheriff Billy Tomasi said increased staffing and multiple accidents have left the fleet short four vehicles.
Tomasi told the board his office has considered used vehicles but encountered units with crash damage; newer Dodge Durango models have performed well and are under consideration. HR/Finance Officer Adam Harrison said one totaled 2019 Ford Explorer may yield roughly $4,000 from insurance and a totaled 2020 Dodge Durango may yield about $14,000; he noted the department must pay $2,500 immediately for a no-fault accident until insurance settlements are complete. Tomasi estimated replacement vehicles could be available in about a month.
Commissioner Tom Moody moved to approve soliciting bids for three lease-purchase vehicles; Commissioner Bruce Blair seconded and the motion (26-292) prevailed. The minutes record the board concluded the 2026 budget can sustain the purchases.
