Public works reports on town facilities: camera delays, cupola damage and sprinkler project updates

Assistant Director Peter Vaccarelli told the Public Works Commission on Feb. 18 that several facilities have ongoing maintenance: Police HQ lighting pricing submitted, Town Hall camera installation delayed by weather, Historical Building cupola temporarily repaired, and the Fire Department sprinkler project advancing to the next phase.
At the Feb. 18 meeting of the Middlebury Public Works Commission, Assistant Director Peter Vaccarelli reviewed maintenance and repair work across town facilities.
Vaccarelli said additional basement lighting pricing has been submitted for the Police Department Headquarters and that Chief Deely verified heating issues reported last month were not present at this time. At Town Hall, a new fire, security and camera system is in progress but exterior camera installation has been delayed by weather; winter slate roof inspections at Town Hall and the Shepardson Community Center were also delayed.
The Historical Building sustained cupola damage in high winds; Vaccarelli said a temporary repair has been made and a permanent repair will be scheduled when weather permits. The library's roof ice issues are being managed with the building heat trace system. The Fire Department sprinkler system project is entering its next phase, covering the meeting room, kitchen and gear room; the project is under review.
Vaccarelli also reported that required grates for the dog pound are being sourced, vehicle maintenance work has been completed, and a set of parks and municipal facilities (Highway Garage, Transfer Station, Meadowview Park, Ledgewood Park, School House Park and Quassy Ball Field) currently have no reported issues.
The commission recorded these reports as part of its routine Directors' Reports; no formal votes or actions were taken on the facility items during this session.
