Selectmen accept resignations, ratify an appointment and extend town‑hall hours

At the Oct. 15 meeting the Sheffield Selectmen handled a series of routine governance items: resignations, appointments, borrowing paperwork and an administrative schedule decision.
The board accepted Julie Hannam’s resignation from the finance committee (effective Oct. 11, 2024). The moderator had appointed Will Conlin to fill the unexpired term through May 2025; the Selectmen moved to ratify the appointment and approved it. The board also acknowledged receipt of a letter from Cheryl Blackburn expressing interest in an alternate committee appointment; a vote on that appointment will be taken at the next meeting.
On borrowing documents, the board voted to sign all approved borrowing paperwork once the documents are complete and presented to the Selectmen. The meeting also revisited Town Hall hours: having trialed a four‑day schedule earlier in the year, the board voted to extend the current schedule for the foreseeable future.
Other items: The board read and accepted a resignation from George O. on the Planning Board and from Nan Wells on the Commission on Disabilities and described the joint appointment process to fill planning vacancies until the next election. They discussed but did not finalize the town’s share of a possible USDA grant for a new police cruiser (the town’s portion was estimated roughly at $30,000 of a $71,000 vehicle pending grant award). The board approved trick‑or‑treat hours (Oct. 31, 5–7 p.m.) and noted community events such as a trunk‑or‑treat on Oct. 25.
Next steps: Staff will post borrowing paperwork and the address list for residents who wish to correspond with state officials about the bridge; appointment votes for committee alternates will occur at a subsequent meeting.
