The City Council on April 15 adopted an amendment to the zoning ordinance that clarifies rules for covered walkways (breezeways) connecting accessory structures and main buildings.
Public Works Director Elvin Hernandez told the Planning and Zoning Commission and Council that the goal is to permit a non-climatized connection for recreational use while ensuring such spaces are not habitable or climate-controlled. The amendments retain setback and height restrictions and specify a typical minimum width of 6 feet; the Commission had discussed whether screens are allowed and agreed the space should not be enclosed as a habitable area.
No members of the public spoke during the required public hearing. Councilmember Carl Moerer moved to approve Ordinance No. 25-649; Councilmember Keith Brown seconded. The motion carried 3-0.
