Superintendent updates: Sinclair direct-admissions MOU, bullying report, staffing and community partnerships

Superintendent Howard presented several informational items to the board. He described a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sinclair Community College that would allow participating 11th-graders who meet qualifying criteria to receive direct admission offers upon graduation; counselors would provide initial student lists and demographic information to Sinclair, and the MOU will return to the board for formal approval at a future meeting.
Howard also presented the semester-2 bullying and harassment report required under the Ohio Revised Code, explaining the district’s reporting process, the role of the behavior database and how incidents are classified under state law. He said staff will work with board member Mrs. Oshani over the summer to develop a more robust roll-out and student-level education plan for the start of the year.
The superintendent reported that there are five open positions remaining (math specialists, PE, two kindergarten teachers) with several candidates under consideration and noted key dates for new-staff orientation and the first day of school (Aug. 17). He also summarized partnership outreach: an alumni-led study-abroad opportunity (KCO) being developed for one or two students, discussions with Omega CDC about student-success planning and contact with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s school liaison about resources for military-connected students.
Howard closed by acknowledging two long-serving employees, Miss Potter and Miss Sterner, whose last day is June 30; the board offered public thanks for their service. The board did not take action on the Sinclair MOU at this meeting; Howard said he would bring the agreement back for a future vote.
