Summary

The Brookline Selectboard agreed at its Sept. 15 meeting to apply a $510,417 state reimbursement for prior Bond Street Bridge work toward lowering the town's portion of the tax rate in October 2025.
Finance staff explained that the $510,417 represents an 80% reimbursement from the State of New Hampshire for previously incurred bridge expenses. The board considered two options: include the reimbursement on the MS‑434 to reduce the tax rate or leave it off the MS‑434 so it would increase the town's unassigned fund balance. Chair Eddie Arnold said town meeting intent favored returning the 80% to taxpayers and the board voted to use the reimbursement to lower the tax rate.
Board members also discussed how to account for an estimated $100,000 in proceeds if Lot J‑54 closes in 2025; staff advised recording that revenue under 3190 Interest and Penalties on Delinquent Taxes rather than as Sale of Municipal Property under miscellaneous revenues.
