Rushford Village approves Bruening Rock contract after road tour highlights drainage and pothole needs

Rushford Village council members and staff conducted a road tour on May 5 and later that evening voted to contract with Bruening Rock for 2026 road rock and ice rock supplies. The site visits identified drainage problems, overhanging trees and localized pavement damage that staff said will guide where rock and repairs are applied.
The road tour, led by Mayor Dennis Overland and attended by council members Mike Ebner, Travis Link, Robert Hart and Rick Ruberg, included inspections of Desote Road, Tower Ridge Road, Goodrich Street, Aspen Road and the Benson Lane/Missouri crossing. Consultant Derek Olinger of Bolton & Menk recommended working on the approach from Tower Ridge to County Road 25 to limit gravel washing onto the county road and suggested drilling the concrete slab at the Benson Lane crossing to check for subsurface voids and filling them if found to reduce washout risk.
Public Works/Maintenance Supervisor Darrin Dessner outlined maintenance needs: the Goodrich hydrant is draining slowly and may have root intrusion, crack‑filling done in 2021 on Goodrich is due for repeat attention in 2028–29, and Aspen Road would benefit from localized milling and patching to remove potholes. Staff also removed a large rock near the Lukkason property that had partly broken off into the roadway.
After reviewing two bids from Bruening Rock and Milestone Materials, the council voted to approve Bruening Rock’s 2026 pricing and delivery arrangement for regular road rock and ice rock. The motion was made by Council Member Mike Ebner, seconded by Robert Hart, and carried. The transcript records the council’s approval but does not list individual roll‑call votes.
The council directed staff to use the road tour findings, and to work with the selected vendor and Bolton & Menk, to develop a rock‑spreading plan identifying which roads will receive material and the estimated quantities.
The council also noted it favors keeping one vendor for the 2026 program to simplify planning during a year with a new public‑works supervisor. The meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
