North Canaan explores transfer‑station alternatives after MIRA disbanding; NRRA option to be on town‑meeting agenda

He said HRRA leadership in Danbury may assist in forming an NRRA that would include North Canaan and other towns. The board plans to include a non‑committal vote on joining the NRRA on the next town meeting agenda to allow the town to pursue collaboration without binding the town’s commitment.
The board also noted an April 23 meeting with the State to clarify what the State will pay for regarding the Ruggles Landing project; once funding responsibilities are clarified, the matter will be presented at a town meeting for residents to review and vote. Selectmen described Ruggles Landing as expected to be a lease agreement that should not require additional town funds.
Bunce’s report reflects pending decisions that depend on outside entities (state, regional authorities); the board directed staff to bring clearer options and financial implications back to the town before voters consider a binding decision.
