Pella commission reviews Certified Local Government application progress

At the April 13 meeting the Historic Preservation Commission reviewed the city's progress toward Certified Local Government status and recent ordinance history.
Planning and Zoning Director Gerald Buydos briefed commissioners that the CLG topic had been discussed by the City Council on May 21, 2024, and that a draft amended historic district overlay ordinance had been submitted to the State Historic Preservation Office of Iowa (SHPO). After receiving comments from SHPO that ordinance amendment was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 28, 2024 and then by the City Council on Dec. 17, 2024. Staff reported MIPA Senior Planner Zhi Chen has now sent Pella’s CLG application to SHPO for review.
Commissioners did not take further formal action at the meeting; staff will relay SHPO comments and next steps when available.
