The Pella Airport Committee voted April 10 to omit a proposed crosswind runway from the draft Airport Improvement Program (ALP).
Joel Weiler, a committee member, moved the motion and Eric Recker seconded it. The motion carried 4–2: Weiler, Recker, Jeff Bollard and Matt Hutchinson voted yes; Jim Mueller and Trevor Nikkel voted no.
The draft ALP was presented to the committee by Jerry Searle as a “Draft for Discussion Only.” The committee's action removes the crosswind runway from the version of the ALP the committee will forward to the City Council. Committee members did not adopt any changes to the remainder of the draft during the meeting.
The committee noted the Pella City Council will discuss the airport and the ALP/Master Plan at its May 19 meeting, which is the next step for council-level review and public consideration.
The committee adjourned and scheduled its next meeting for April 24, 2026.
