CDC discusses exterior repair options for 215 Main St. City Hall Annex after water damage found
Summary
During a work session the Pella City CDC reviewed remediation and design options for 215 Main St., the future City Hall Annex (former Pella Daycare). Committee members favored a green/mustard color scheme, asked staff to request two contractor bids (rebrick-and-paint as primary, siding-and-paint as alternate), and suggested an on-site review at the next meeting.

The Pella City Community Development Committee held a work session April 8 to discuss exterior options for 215 Main St., a former daycare gifted to the city and planned for use as a City Hall Annex, after interior demolition revealed water damage and potential mold.
Planning and Zoning Director Gerald Buydos briefed the committee that initial demolition showed water damage on dormers and interior walls, and that additional destructive testing could reveal more exterior brick removal than originally anticipated. The committee discussed keeping some existing brick, using a cheaper replacement brick that can be painted, or installing wood-look siding on portions of the building.
Committee members expressed a preference for a green and mustard-yellow color scheme and asked staff to request two contractor bids: a primary bid for rebricking and painting, and an alternate bid for siding and painting. Buydos said the north and south sides will be painted brick, the west side will be painted brick, and the east side will likely be a combination of siding and painted brick pending contractor bids. Allissa Grandia asked for cost comparisons of painted brick versus siding for the center of the east side and suggested additional trim details; Mike Kiser proposed an on-site meeting at the next session so members could review the building in person.
No formal vote was taken; the committee agreed to obtain quotes and to consider a site visit at the next meeting scheduled for May 13, 2026.
