CDC approves Culligan Ultrapure exterior colors for 121 Oskaloosa St.

The Pella City Community Development Committee voted April 8 to approve a design-permit application that will repaint 121 Oskaloosa St. in Benjamin Moore Charcoal Slate (HC-178) with Wickham Gray (HC-171) trim.
Staff reviewed the proposal and confirmed the colors are on the Pella Color Palette and meet the Architectural Design Guidelines. Scott Ames, Culligan Ultrapure’s representative who joined the meeting by telephone, said Culligan purchased the business in August 2025, has updated landscaping, and wants the exterior color scheme changed to “clean the place up.” Ames said the company’s typical color scheme did not appear on the Pella palette, prompting the chosen colors.
Patsy Cody moved to approve the design permit and Bob Zylstra seconded; the motion carried 10-0. Staff recorded no conditions on the approval.
