The Pella City Community Development Committee on April 8 approved an amended design permit for a new single-family home at 508 Washington St., authorizing Benjamin Moore Deep Creek (1477) siding, matte Black Ice brick and light-gray mortar, and Hasbrouck Brown trim.
Staff told the committee the amended design substantially complies with the zoning code and the DURE Manual. Applicant Craig De Jong, speaking on behalf of owner Lyle Koopmans, said construction costs led the applicant to revise the original brick-heavy design; De Jong confirmed the garage doors will be black to match the windows.
Committee members discussed materials and colors during the April 8 meeting; Planning and Zoning Director Gerald Buydos reviewed the staff recommendation to approve. Jerry Brummel moved to approve the amended design permit and Chris Meyers seconded; the motion carried 10-0.
The design permit amends a plan the committee originally approved Oct. 8, 2025. The committee recorded no conditions on the approval; implementation will follow normal permitting and inspection procedures for properties in the Central Business District and the Dutch Residential/Historic design guidance.
