Sheffield selectmen approve minutes, vendor permits and accounting authorization; set Sept. 9 special town meeting

At its Sept. 3 meeting, the Sheffield Board of Selectmen took a series of procedural actions and announced an upcoming special town meeting.
The board approved minutes from Aug. 15 and Aug. 19, 2024. It accepted Todd Raldi’s resignation from the Board of Health and later appointed Barbara Reeves and Mark Becketti to that board (see separate article). The board approved mobile food vendor permits for Ian Maynard at Big Elm Brewery on Sept. 6 and for Baldwin Farm LLC on Sept. 7, both subject to payment of required fees.
Town staff (Rhonda) briefed the board on a change in accounting firms and asked the board to authorize the new firm to finish closing the prior fiscal year’s books so free cash can be certified. The board approved that authorization.
The board announced a special town meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 at 6:00 p.m. at the high school auditorium. Voters will be asked to consider four articles: borrowing to renovate the new town garage location; permission to sell a parcel of land; a correction to the collector/treasurer payment-language; and approval of layout/easements related to County Road repairs and a restricted bridge replacement (the state’s MassDOT will undertake the bridge work once layout and easements are approved by voters).
The selectmen adjourned after a resident offered to assist with data acquisition for the EMS task force and the usual closing motions were made and passed by voice vote.
