The Northfield Agricultural Commission on Feb. 20 unanimously appointed Jesse Robertson-Dubois as its new chair after the previous chair, Debbie Frechette, resigned and the Selectboard accepted her resignation on Feb. 18, 2025. Vice Chair Kristy Norwood moved to appoint Robertson-Dubois; Jose Madiedo seconded, and the motion passed by roll call with all four members present voting aye.
The commission discussed reports that federal agricultural funding has been put on hold for some farmers in the Berkshires and Worcester County. Members said they want to determine whether Northfield producers have been affected and to reach out to local farmers. Bill Llewelyn suggested contacting the state agricultural commission office for guidance; Robertson-Dubois emphasized the need for local outreach so any affected farmers can report issues to the commission.
The meeting minutes from Sept. 10, 2024 were approved earlier in the session by unanimous roll call after a motion by Llewelyn and a second from Norwood. The commission recorded no citizen input or outside guests for the meeting.
Next steps identified by the commission include outreach to local producers to assess potential impacts from the reported funding freezes and using the state Ag Commission contact suggested by Llewelyn as a resource. The commission scheduled its next meeting for March 11, 2025, and adjourned at 7:46 p.m.
