Whately CPC approves $9,800 for library roof and $16,000 for Tri-Town Beach dock

The Whately Community Preservation Committee voted unanimously to allocate $9,800 from its Historic Preservation reserve for a library roof replacement and $16,000 from its Open Space & Recreation reserve for a Tri-Town Beach dock expansion.

Committee member Judy Markland moved to approve both applications and allocate the funds from the respective accounts; Committee member Sara Cooper seconded. The CPC voted 6-0 to approve the motion during the regular meeting that followed a public hearing held at 5:02 p.m.

The library trustees had requested $9,800 for a roof replacement; Florence Roofing’s estimate included an additional $900 contingency because the building, at approximately 75 years old, could reveal hidden issues once opened. The Tri-Town Beach Commission requested $16,000 to build roughly 110 feet of new dock; Andrew Ostrowski reported the Conservation Commission’s approval and Chris Williams said the Recreation Commission had given unanimous approval. The committee noted the cost will be split equally among the Tri-Town Beach partners, Whately, and Deerfield. No public input was recorded during the hearing on either item.

The allocations were funded from the committee’s existing reserves and were approved after the committee reviewed the budget (Exhibit A) and confirmed available funds.

The committee also completed routine business during the meeting; Alan Sanderson Jr. later moved to accept the minutes from the previous meeting, a motion seconded by Chris Williams that passed unanimously, 6-0.
